This wedding day started out at the exact location that Jackie and Blake met just a few years before: the St. John University Catholic Center at West Virginia University. Both Jackie and Blake prepped for their sacramental day here, with family and close friends, and celebrated their Nuptial Mass before the Lord with hundreds of loved ones in attendance behind them, witnessing their love to each other and deep love for the One who brought them to this point in their lives.
Jackie selected several heirloom items to accompany her for her special day. The brooch that you see in some of the photos below was her grandmothers, the gold pearl ring was a gift from her mother, and her rosary was a gift from Blake! They all made up such a beautiful accompaniment for her, some on her person and the others were pinned to her bouquet.Â
Their wedding mass was at St. John University Parish and was celebrated beautifully Ad Orientum by Father Brian Crenwelge. Â A particular part of his homily stood out to me, and I quickly wrote it down so I didn’t forget. I wanted to share it here in this blog post, so that Jackie and Blake share a memory of it, but also for all of those reading, especially couples!…
“When you are dating someone, you have butterflies and chastity is hard. Â But when you’re married, you have to fight to not be selfish, but self-less. Â To sacrifice for the other, as God was crucified and died for us [the church, his Bride].”
What a beautiful reminder of what this day is all about!Â
It was obvious that Jackie and Blake understood that the day was about, as they kept the Sacrament of it at the heart of it, and I truly believe that they will serve as wonderful witnesses of Catholic marriage throughout their lives.Â
Congratulations you two! Thank you so much for trusting me with this wonderful day!
