I love finding new places to explore locally, so when a Google search led me to this enchanting spot, I was glued to the idea of not only visiting myself, but also to photograph a session there!
I will say that Lea and Aurora were the perfect duo to fulfill my dream of photographing at Karlstal in the Palatine Forest. Everything about the session had a mystical feel, from the location itself and the natural lighting, to their dresses and bare feet. It was so dreamy!
Lea was the winner of a portrait package that I donated to the Mom2Mom of the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) spring fundraiser event held on Ramstein Air Base back in March. We had such a fun time and I couldn’t ask for more perfect models!
About Karlstal: the location is very quaint and just off of route L500 between Unterhammer and Trippstadt. There is free parking at an old hotel nearby called Klugsche Mühle. Once you park, it is about a 15 minute hike to a small glen, where you will see tiny bridges that will bring you from one side of a stream to the other, large rocks, small banks, and lots of lush greenery. When you feel as though you’ve stepped into a fairy garden, you will know you’re in the right place!
I suggest hiking boots or wellies if you wish to waltz in the water. WARNING: This trail is not very stroller friendly at all! The path has large tree roots and rocks, and then there are steps throughout the trail. Lea brought her all-terrain single stroller, and it took an extra set of hands to hoist over the terrain at several spots. Bringing a stroller will be easier if you have assistance on your adventure!
I hope to explore this area further and hopefully find some new enchanting locations! Happy exploring! 🙂
